Drama & Musical TheatreThe musical provides a unique opportunity for students to perform all types of art in one production. Students learn about time period, style, language, history, and the quality music that are included in the musical. All 6th – 8th grade students are eligible to participate in the school musical. This program runs from the end of January through the beginning of April. Rehearsals will be held after school four times a week. All students who audition will be placed in the musical cast. All members are required to attend rehearsals and performances. Preparations for the school play take place in the fall with an early winter production.
Welcome back to returning students and a big hello to anyone who is considering joining us as a new student. For those of you new to the program here is a brief overview: Students will receive a lesson based on their instrument selection in a small group that will follow a rotation schedule based on a specific day. In addition students will also have a full band block (Tuesday mornings for Grade 5, Thursday afternoon for Grades 6-8). Lesson schedules will be available to see within the shared NMS Band Information Folder. The lesson program will tentatively begin on Monday September 9th for our 5th band students, with 6-8 grades starting on Tuesday September 3rd. More information will be shared directly with students regarding their individual lesson times and days as it becomes available via email/drive.
Before and After School Band Responsibilities :
6-8 Concert Band: Friday morning before school rehearsals are a key component for the success of our band program. We will start this schedule on October 4th to allow students the opportunity to regain their rehearsal structure within the school day and become comfortable before adding additional rehearsal time.
Jazz Band: Will be open to all students(Not Mandatory) and will meet either before school or during the evening times depending upon the student/teacher schedule and availability. A great extension of our program providing additional instruction in a new style of music and good fun. This group typically begins rehearsal in the middle of October. Stay tuned for more information.
We were fortunate to start students last year as 4th graders, but please spread the word that any student of any grade can join us and begin playing a musical instrument.
My name is Ms. LaFosse and I am so excited to be your music and choir teacher this year. If you have ever sung in the shower, hummed along to a tune on the radio, or lip-synced to your favorite band, you are automatically qualified to be a singer in our choir! This ensemble is open to students in all grades, split up into a fifth grade, and a combined sixth, seventh, and eighth grade choir. This year will focus on a wide variety of genres. We will be singing pop songs, standard choral pieces, and works from across the world. I strive to make my classroom and ensemble a welcoming and fun community. Joining music was the best decision I’ve ever made, and I hope that is the same for you. If you want to make lifelong friends, have a great time, and make wonderful music, please consider joining our choir. If you have any questions, reach me through email: glafosse@nmrsd.org
