Social and Emotional Supports

Welcome to our school Social and Emotional Supports page! As a school community, we are committed to providing age and developmentally appropriate, and culturally sensitive support to help all students thrive socially, emotionally and academically. We understand that the strengths and needs of our students vary and for that reason, we take time to get to know each student and tailor supports to meet their specific needs.

We offer support around:

  • Social skills (friendship development, recognizing and responding to social cues in expected ways, perspective-taking, empathy building)
  • Collaborative problem-solving
  • Conflict resolution
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Self-esteem
  • Behavior management
  • Self-advocacy
  • Transitions
  • Academic support
  • And much more!

NMS has been working hard to incorporate strategies to build social and emotional supports into our daily school routines. All students will learn more about their social and emotional wellness, how to effectively communicate their feelings and advocate for themselves, and increase their positive connections to each other, staff members and our school. Some students will receive additional supports based on referrals from caregivers, staff, or community agencies. On this page, you’ll find more information about what Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is, what supports we provide, and what tools and community resources are available. If you have specific questions for us, please email us.

 We’re here to support you!
